Carbon Accounting templates (CA) v2.0

Release timing: Mid-April 2026

Overview

The Carbon Accounting templates v2.0 introduces a unified and more flexible reporting structure, designed to simplify carbon data collection and improve usability.

The update consolidates previous template versions into a single structure, reducing complexity and making it easier to adapt to evolving reporting requirements, including ESRS.

Key updates

Unified Carbon Accounting templates

  • Combines previous Standard and ESRS-aligned templates into one consolidated template structure, where only relevant sections are shown based on what is relevant for your reporting setup
  • Reduces the need for structural changes when reporting needs change over time

Improved Scope 3, Category 4 & 9 Transportation & Distribution reporting

  • Redesigned structure for transportation and distribution reporting
  • Clearer categorization aligned with GHG Protocol guidance, reducing ambiguity in how inbound and outbound transportation and distribution are classified
  • Updated logic ensures inbound transportation is consistently reported in Category 4, in line with expected interpretation
  • Simplified reporting flow to guide correct categorization of activities

Increased configuration flexibility

  • Selection between tank-to-wheel (TTW) and well-to-wheel (WTW) emission factors for relevant Scope 3 transport categories (e.g., Categories 4, 6, 7, 9). Both approaches are accepted under the GHG Protocol, while SBTi requires WTW.
  • Flexible handling of emission factors, either via direct input or centrally managed lists; supports both local ownership where needed and centralized control to simplify data entry and reduce errors for distributed reporters
  • Ability to report pre-calculated emissions across all Scope 3 categories (e.g., where emissions are calculated outside Position Green); while this provides flexibility, activity-based or supplier-specific methods are recommended where possible to support more detailed analysis, scenario modeling, and decarbonization strategy

Enhanced electricity and EAC reporting

  • Clearer guidance on how to report purchased electricity and Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs)
  • Improved validation logic to reduce inconsistencies and prevent over-reporting

Structural and usability improvements

  • Streamlined template structure for better consistency and maintainability
  • Improved reporting flows and reduced complexity in data input
  • UX and guidance enhancements across key areas to support more efficient reporting

CA v2.0 delivers a more consistent, flexible, and user-friendly carbon reporting experience. The update improves data quality, reduces complexity, and supports more efficient sustainability reporting processes across organizations.

Availability and rollout

Access to CA v2.0 depends on each organization’s current setup and reporting status.

  • The update is primarily available to customers using, or willing to transition to, Automatic Updates
  • Customers who have already started reporting for 2026 or have highly customized setups may follow a different transition path
  • Moving to CA v2.0 is handled in collaboration with Position Green to ensure a smooth transition and alignment with each organization’s setup

Customers interested in adopting CA v2.0 are encouraged to contact their Position Green Customer Success Manager to discuss the most appropriate transition approach
